New Book about Albany, NY | Portraits | Photography

I was looking over some photographs on some hard drive I had in my studio. It contained so interesting images of people and places I rarely meet or areas I don't visit much. I come from a white middle class background and for the most part know people a lot like me. So when i saw these photographs of a book I was doing of the urban churches in Albany, NY titled Sunday hats I really wanted to finish the book. The people are amazing and there ideas and what is important to them is wonderful. These ladies are some of the most kind people I have ever meet. I have thousands more photographs I just wanted to share a few. Sunday fashion and colorful hats and the important place in the local culture is so interesting to me. Here is a quick look at a few.

2016 was a great year in so many ways. It has been a very rewarding with some of the most wonderful weddings and portraits I have ever done. The Hudson Valley has become mostly a destination wedding area. Industry and start up families have been declining while many new wedding venues mostly barn and stately estates have brought in wedding couples from all over the world.

The bar has been raised to world class standards. NYC and Long Island brides and grooms are the about 50 % of my customers and that fact has made me more aware of the details of a wedding and has refocused me.

This wonderful wedding was held at the beautiful Pat’s Barn. The rustic beauty is amazing ! But. I always love to get different colors and urban and country looks in weddings. the contrast makes a wedding album interesting and beautiful.

Just 10 minutes of driving gave the wedding both a Albany urban classic look and the warm beauty of a barn wedding. It was a visual delight.

A Beautiful September day for a wedding in Saugerties, NY. The heat and humid weather always seems to fade in the middle of the month. It sure makes for a wonderful comfortable time. The bride and groom looked so good. They had such a a great time with a great group of guests who know how to have a great time.

They picked the perfect locations to get ready, married and have a reception.

The Bride got ready at the wonderful Montgomery Bed and Breakfast.

The wedding was at Saint Mary's of the Snow church in Saugerties.

The Reception was held at the Dutch Barn at the Kiersted House.

Summer Weddings in Upstate NY

t has been both a beautiful and painful summer shooting weddings in NYC and upstate, NY. It seems hotter and more humid the ever. I could be wrong due to the trend toward outside weddings. The Wedding and wedding industry blogs and publications are mostly based on the regions coastal of California. The wedding are almost never humid and much cooler. The wedding are held about 1 hour before sunset. The comfort level could not be better. This has influenced the wedding here where weddings held in hot humid times were not the norm just 5 years ago.

The reasons are many and I will list just a few.

Church weddings are becoming rare.
The venues would much rather time and locate the wedding at a certain location and time for logistics.
And of course the wedding media and the California weather style.

This is not to say New York outdoor weddings are not wonderful. If the weather is on your side and the timing is perfect The Hudson Valley is the best. But in July and August it could get uncomfortable.

Form mid September until late October nothing is like the Northeast part of the US. Absolutely the best place to in the world to hold a wedding. The refreshing air and great views are world famous. And who does not love a North East Fall foliage, christmas or a snowy wedding.

Don't get me wrong. The summer is special, but think about the heat when make up and hair is involved. You can do a lot no matter what the weather to insure you are picture ready.

The purpose of what we do is to make our brides and groom love there photography and all the memories they will bring. A wedding is such a special and unique event. The bride and groom should have a wow factor along with documentary coverage in there photographs. The wedding day is not any other day and the photographs should be the very best. All the bases must be covered. The ceremony, candids, preparation, family portraits and the reception and cultural traditions. My favorite shots are the couple together and bridal photos. I am a fashion and studio photographer so it comes so natural to me.

Almost every bride has looked at Bride Magazine and thought about all the details and beauty that they want in there wedding. It is a large emotional investment. As the wedding photographer you need to do all you can to make the dreams and wishes come true. Sure, you need to balance the need to get the shots with making sure the couple enjoy the wedding. With all the years of experience and care it is no problem.

The Hudson Valley is so diverse with everything from rural barns to posh mansions and that is the fun of it.

As a wedding photographer with Aperture Photography and artist I always want my work to stand the test of time. I am educated in fine art and always keep in mind that the very best work never goes out of fashion. I call it the Black Tuxedo Rule. At an award show it always works. It With details simple is better. It is not about spending a lot of money it is about classic details will look great in your photographs. Good design never goes out of style and will look good one hundred years from now as it did the day of the wedding. I just photographed a lovely wedding in Irvington, NY near Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County. I have photographed many weddings in the area and it is always beautiful. The photographs in this post are of a wedding in a private home and it shows what can be done by a creative bride and groom and family. Most of the photos were taken at this one wedding.

The Full Moon Resort was the site of a remarkable Monday Wedding. Aperture Photography was so happy to capture all the wonderful moments. Besides the normal family formal I shot in a photojournalistic style. People came from as far as Peru and Washington State. After a week of rain the skies cleared and the sun danced off the new grass. It was a perfect day and I have never seen the beautiful Full Moon Resort look better.
